TEXT: 1 Kings 19:1-9

TOPIC: HANDLING DEPRESSION (1)

KEY VERSE:1Kings19:4

while he himself went a day's journey into the desert. He came to a broom tree, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. "I have had enough, LORD," he said. "Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors."

Depression is a moment of sadness, discomfort as a result of unexpected or unforeseen negative happenings which may lead to ill health or suicide. Depression is inevitable and God does not leave us alone. There are different ways he had taken godly men from the valley of depression to mountain of joy and contentment.

Elijah's life was under threat after accomplishing great feats. It rained after three years of drought, Revival of the nation and turning of the heart of men to God of Israel after the killing of prophets of Baal. It had been a celebration until Jezebel vowed to take his life. A Prophet who had demonstrated great courage and power of God in the nation took to his heels.

Elijah remembered God in his depression, he  retreated to be alone with him and communicated with him in prayer. In moment of depression we may be too quick to forget that God is there with us, he knows how we feel and he want to hear from us. In most cases, we grumble, complain, murmur and start worrying. Instead of worrying, have faith in God that he is still in charge and rather than complaining, Go on your knees and express your concerns to him.

Prayer: Lord Jesus help me to know that you are still my God when I am passing through valley of depression in Jesus name.
