The faithfulness of the Hebrew midwives
DAILY INSIGHT WITH GOD
SATURDAY 11TH JULY, 2020
TEXT: EXODUS 1: 15-21
15 The king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, whose names were Shiphrah and Puah,
16 "When you help the Hebrew women in childbirth and observe them on the delivery stool, if it is a boy, kill him; but if it is a girl, let her live."
17 The midwives, however, feared God and did not do what the king of Egypt had told them to do; they let the boys live.
18 Then the king of Egypt summoned the midwives and asked them, "Why have you done this? Why have you let the boys live?"
19 The midwives answered Pharaoh, "Hebrew women are not like Egyptian women; they are vigorous and give birth before the midwives arrive."
20 So God was kind to the midwives and the people increased and became even more numerous.
21 And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families of their own.
KEY VERSE: And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families of their own. EX 1:21
TOPIC: THE FAITHFULNESS OF THE HEBREW MIDWIVES.
Faithfulness is being courageous and daring to do that which is right not minding the consequences. Faithfulness involves love and dedication to God which is visible in our actions when we find ourselves in a difficult situation. . Faithfulness to God is a choice to obey God rather than any human or constituted authority.
The Hebrew midwives helped women to give birth and take care of the baby till the mother was stronger. Shiprah and Puah were likely to be supervisors or head of the Hebrew midwives, they were approached by Pharaoh to kill every male Hebrew born and of course carrying out the king’s command successfully would attract great reward. It would have been very easy for them to carry out this role without anyone suspecting them but they chose to be loyal and faithful to their God by ignoring earthly reward. They were willing to risk their lives by technically using wisdom to disobey Pharaoh’s command. God rewarded them greatly by giving them their own families and blessed the works of their hands.
It takes faith to be courageous and such a faith is rooted in love and devotion to Jesus Christ. A heart that loves Christ fear God and not men or difficult situations that may make one to shiver or compromise. A heart that loves God will do all to be loyal to him even when risk of life is involved. God honour faithfulness to his word, be courageous to stand for God wherever you find yourself.
Prayer: I receive grace to be courageous and stand for the word of God wherever I find myself in Jesus name.
