TEXT: 2 CHRONICLES 19:1-3

TOPIC: PEER INFLUENCE

KEY VERSE: 2 CHRONICLES 19:2

Jehu the seer, the son of Hanani, went out to meet him and said to the king, "Should you help the wicked and love those who hate the LORD? Because of this, the wrath of the LORD is upon you.

Peer influence is not limited to children teenagers and youths. It cut across all age groups it is the ability to affect people through associating with them. That is why an English proverb says " Show me your friend and I will tell you who you are"

What could make a King that loved God  associated himself with Ahab that hated righteousness? Probably because he wanted peace to reign between his domain (Southern kingdom) and the Northern Kingdom where Ahab ruled. Before Jehosaphat reign, there had been constant wars between the two kingdoms. And Jehoshaphat being a man of peace thought forming alliance with Ahab could solve the constant wars. He forgot that peace cannot be obtained by human wisdom and strategies. Jehoshaphat association with Ahab cost him much than what he thought of benefitting from the alliance. He almost lost his life on battle field in an attempt to deceive the enemy while fighting on behalf of his friend that had God's curse on his life. His seed was also contaminated by the marriage of his son to daughter of Ahab who influenced him to kill all his siblings.

Wrong companionship will make you lose more than you think you will benefit. Friendship with God is an enmity with the world. You cannot relate with someone without you influencing one another. If you must have a friend, let him be the one that matters to your destination in life. You don't need many friends to succeed in life but the right ones who shared the same values, beliefs and convictions with you.

Prayer: Father in your mercies do not allow wrong associations to entrap my destiny in Jesus name.
