Who is your Friend?
DAILY INSIGHT WITH GOD
WEDNESDAY 9TH APRIL, 2025
TEXT: 2 Samuel 13:1-5
[1]And it came to pass after this, that Absalom the son of David had a fair sister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her.
[2]And Amnon was so vexed, that he fell sick for his sister Tamar; for she was a virgin; and Amnon thought it hard for him to do any thing to her.
[3]But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David’s brother: and Jonadab was a very subtil man.
[4]And he said unto him, Why art thou, being the king’s son, lean from day to day? Wilt thou not tell me? And Amnon said unto him, I love Tamar, my brother Absalom’s sister.
[5]And Jonadab said unto him, Lay thee down on thy bed, and make thyself sick: and when thy father cometh to see thee, say unto him, I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it at her hand.
TOPIC: WHO IS YOUR FRIEND?
The saying “ Show me your friend and I will tell you who you are “ is very true. One of the greatest influence over a man is his friend. Friends are gifts you give to yourself and they are determinants to your success and greatness in life. Amnon was a Prince destined to be a king, he was the first son of David but his ruin was as a result of following the advice of a friend. Jonadab was a relative that became a friend, he was reputed to be an exceptional street wise person full of deceits and such a profile attracted a noble prince who was raised in a palace by a priest , prophet and a king of Israel.
Amnon was burning in lust, he needed a godly advice to reset his senses but his friend gave him an advice that inflated his ego, satisfied his lust and terminated his life. If you are in company of those that tell you what you want to hear, massage your ego, interested in what they can get from you only without any values added. It’s likely you are in a wrong ship called friendship. Get out of it because they are not your friends. The ruin of good men are by bad friends who gives them wrong counsel and influence them negatively. What association should be between a street person and a noble prince? Think of it. Analyse your close relationships, are they drawing you closer to God or drawing you away? Are they good influences or bad influences? Be intentional about friendship and you will be glad you do.
Prayer: Father deliver me from enemies called friends in Jesus name.
