THE CROWD "FAILED " JESUS

 DAILY INSIGHT WITH GOD

FRIDAY 18TH APRIL, 2025

TEXT: MARK 15: 6-15

6Now it was the custom at the festival to release a prisoner whom the people requested. 7 A man called Barabbas was in prison with the insurrectionists who had committed murder in the uprising. 8 The crowd came up and asked Pilate to do for them what he usually did.

9 “Do you want me to release to you the king of the Jews?” asked Pilate, 10 knowing it was out of self-interest that the chief priests had handed Jesus over to him. 11 But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have Pilate release Barabbas instead.

12 “What shall I do, then, with the one you call the king of the Jews?” Pilate asked them.

13 “Crucify him!” they shouted.

14 “Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate.

But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!”

15 Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. He had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified.

TOPIC: THE CROWD ” FAILED” JESUS

Many a times we attached crowd following a leader as a mark of success but times have proven that they cannot be trusted as a real follower. Some leaders have built their success around crowd and many celebrate them as celebrities because of large followers on digital and physical platforms. In challenging times the crowd are usually at their disadvantage as they will be the ones to spread the downfall of such men. Jesus was aware of this, on an occasion he confronted the crowd that they were following him because of free food, he did not build his ministry around crowd. He had trusted one hundred and twenty disciples made of men and women, he also had twelve disciples and also had 3 disciples who were very closed to him.

Only God knows what the priests offered the crowd that would make them instigate false accusations against Jesus who had compassion on them, Jesus who healed their sick, Jesus who delivered their children from Demons. Just six days ago they were hailing him as king, shouting Hosanna but on this day they were shouting “ Crucify him” to the extent of putting themselves and children unborn on curses for crucifying Jesus. Jesus knew that they were humans, he did not trust them, he knew beforehand that they would chose a hardened criminal over him, though it seems the crowd failed Jesus but they made him a success. Without the cross, there is no crown.

Prayer: Father help me not to build my life and mission around crowd but rather on impacts and God in Jesus name.
