PEER INFLUENCE (5)

 DAILY INSIGHT WITH GOD

FRIDAY 16TH OCTOBER, 2020

TEXT: GENESIS 38: 12 - 20

TOPIC: PEER INFLUENCE (5)

KEY VERSE: Gen 38:12

After a long time Judah's wife, the daughter of Shua, died. When Judah had recovered from his grief, he went up to Timnah, to the men who were shearing his sheep, and his friend Hirah the Adullamite went with him.

Peer influence erode values, beliefs and make you conform to strange practices which you abhor. It does not happen at an instant and that is why so many people are victims of peer influence. Peer influence is just like water eroding a rocky surface. It's effects are not obvious until the rocky surface begin to crack and eventually break up.

Judah had a friend Hirah the Adullamite and this friend had a negative influence on him. How did Tamar know that Judah usually slept with prostitute anytime he visits Timnah? This could have been an habit he developed as a result of having a pagan as a friend. His friend willing to pay the price for him also signified that it was habitual and cultural to them which is strange to the values of an Hebrew. Negative influence made Judah slept with prostitute and unfortunately for him Tamah got him through this act.

Walking with a wrong friend may make one lose moral character over time because your unbeliever friend will affect you with his immoral acts. Bad character are like contagious diseases it easily spreads and the only way you can avoid peer influence is to carefully choose your friends.

Prayer: Lord separate me from every wrong people that I call friends in Jesus name.
