CONTENTMENT (3)

 DAILY INSIGHT WITH GOD

WEDNESDAY 30TH SEPTEMBER, 2020

TEXT: LUKE 12 :15-21

TOPIC: CONTENTMENT (3)

KEY VERSE: Luke 12:15

And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

Contentment is a choice to be happy with what you have gotten without desire to have more than what God has divinely allocated for you.

Someone from the crowd approached Jesus to divide his father's estate with him. The law stipulated that the elder brother gets double portion of the estate. This means if there are three hundred houses to be shared among the two. The three hundred houses will be divided into 3 portions.  The elder brother will get 2 portions of the estate which is 200 houses  and the younger brother will get one portion which is 100 houses. The elder brother was greedy, he wanted all for himself without sharing it with his brother. This is uncommon, Jesus was sought after as a  respected Rabbi. Rabbi are teachers who interprete the law.

Jesus declined to intervene in such matter and seized the opportunity to teach them to watch against the least bit of greed because life is not defined by what you have even even when you have a lot. Failure to be contented with what you have will make you covet for what does not belong to you. Be contented with what you have so that you will not be entrapped by greediness  just like the elder brother who desired to get more than it is allocated for him.

Prayer: Father help me to be satisfied with your blessings in Jesus name
