TEXT: MATTHEW 5:33-37

TOPIC: Do not make empty vows

KEY VERSE:But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.Matthew 5 :37

Christ is concern about our relationship with others. He want us to tell the truth at all times and desist from making vows casually. having to back your words with vows show something is wrong. Keeping vows and promises is important. It build trust and make commitment possible in relationships. The scripture condemns making empty vows or empty oaths, giving your words while knowing you will not keep it or swearing falsely in God's name.

Vows are needed in certain circumstances only because we live in a sinful society where there is no trust. Vows were common in Jesus's era but he told his disciples not to use it. He encouraged them to live a truthful life. If we are truthful in our dealings with people there will be no need for vow to strengthen or back up our words.

Prayer: Lord Jesus help me to say the truth at all times in Jesus name.
