Text :Matthew 5:1-3
Topic: The Beatitudes - A Paradox
Key verse: Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:3
The Beatitudes are statements which are difficult to believe or which goes against general belief. Jesus began his sermon with words that seem to contradict each other.
God's ways are different from ours. As heaven is higher than the earth so is his thoughts higher than that of ours. The ways of the kingdom contradict the way of the world. The way of life will not make sense or appeal to a carnal man. The way of life is foolishness to those that are perishing.
If you want to live for God, you must be ready to be enemy to worldliness. Friendship with world is enmity with God. If you want to live for God you must be ready to say and do what seems strange to the world. Willing to give when others take, love when others hate, help when others abuse or stay away. You do not claim rights, willingness to deflate your ego by giving up in claiming your own rights in other to serve others. This attitude is beatitude that will open door to eternity, everlasting joy in his presence and reward here on earth and also in heaven.
Prayer: Father help me to surrender my self totally to obeying and doing your will on earth in Jesus name.
